All areas in West of England see rise in coronavirus cases for second consecutive day

Ten new coronavirus cases have been confirmed across the West of England over the last 24 hours.

This is the second consecutive day each area in our region has reported a rise in lab-confirmed patients.

According to figures released by Public Health England today (August 6), Bristol now has 1,350 cases after a rise of two.

South Gloucestershire reported four more patients have tested positive for Covid-19.

While three new cases were recorded in North Somerset, bringing the district's total to 918.

Bath and North East Somerset now has 356 cases following an increase of one.

Nationally, 308,134 cases have been recorded following a daily rise of 950.

Despite new cases continuing to spike, deaths in the country have significantly dropped.

Across the UK, there's now been 46,413 deaths following a daily rise of 49. This is the second lowest Thursday death toll since lockdown began.

Neither of Bristol's hospital trusts have recorded a coronavirus-related death since July 10.

Today (Thursday) police forces across the country have issued warnings ahead of the heatwave weekend amid fears of coronavirus 'super-spreader' events.

Parts of Britain could reach a possible high of 37C as we head into the weekend - with millions expected to hit pub beer gardens or head to the coast.

But, authorities are warning sun-seekers to avoid any venues that appearing to be breaking lockdown rules.
