Alison Hammond reveals she asked Great British Bake Off bosses not to air 'shameful' fall

Alison Hammond has revealed that she asked The Great British Bake Off producers not to air the moment she suffered an embarrassing fall during last year's series.

The 48-year-old host shared the incident, where she tumbled off a countertop, admitting it was a moment of “shame” and joking about her clumsiness.

Appearing on The One Show, Hammond laughed as she recalled the mishap, explaining that she had been “showing off” when she tried to perform a playful move on one of the tables in the famous Bake Off tent.

“I am a little bit clumsy!” she quipped.

In a lighthearted exchange, Hammond, who was on the BBC show to promote her new series, Alison Hammond’s Big Weekend, explained that she had hopped up onto the table, intending to “add a little bit of happiness” as the contestants baked.

But, as she attempted to swing her legs in a scissor motion, she lost her balance and toppled backward. The incident was later aired, much to her surprise.

Hammond had viewers in stitches after she tumbled off a countertop on GBBO (Channel 4)

The moment was shown on The One Show, where hosts JB Gill and Lauren Laverne giggled as they replayed the clip.

“What were you trying to do there?” Gill asked, prompting Hammond to explain, “I'll tell you what I was trying to do.

“So I made this big thing, I just wanted to move my legs, imagine my arms are my legs, I just wanted to go like this (demonstrates fanning her arms) with my legs.

“But I leaned back and I thought I was touching something but there was nothing there, and then my whole weight took me over.”

Laughing, she continued: “I was showing off basically.”

She added: “Not going to lie, I was showing off. And it went wrong and it was very shameful. But you know what? That's life."

Despite her request to have the fall cut from the show, the moment made it to air.

“I said to them, ‘Please don't show that,' and they did!’” she exclaimed.

“Of course they did!” fellow guests Lionel Richie and Rachel Zegler said in unison.

“I am a little bit clumsy,” said Hammond. “But hey ho!”

The One Show airs at 7pm on BBC One on weekdays
