Alison Hammond makes one joke and pregnancy questions surge

During a segment on today’s This Morning, Alison Hammond made a joke that has got the rumour mill’s wheels turning.

Presenting opposite colleague Dermot O’Leary, Hammond was hosting a segment about women achieving milestones later in life.

One caller phoned in to say: “I thought I was going through menopause and I found out I was pregnant. I already had a 20-year-old and it changed my life so much.”

“That’s amazing,” Alison replied. “Imagine going to the doctors going through the menopause and find out you’ve had a baby. I’m 47 and I thought it was the end of my time. I could have another baby!”

She followed this up by emphasising: “This could be me. I’m having a baby!”

Paired with a big grin, it was obvious that Hammond was joking, as was picked up by O’Leary who saracastically said: “Congratulations Alison, such good news and announcing it here – what a scoop!”

Of course, the spur-of-the-moment pregnancy announcement is just all part of Hammond’s presenting charm, and not an official reveal.

Already a mother to 19-year-old Aidan, Hammond is not about to have a second child anytime soon – but tabloids have rushed to publish speculation.

‘Alison Hammond pregnant’ also skyrocketed as a search term, being the number one searched term on Google alongside her name today.

This wouldn’t be the first time that an offhand comment from Hammond has sparked overreactionary headlines.

In the wake of the Downing Street Christmas party scandal back in 2021, Alison tweeted: “So I’ve thought long and hard about this, I’ve decided to apply for Prime Minister! I feel I would do a grand Job Thoughts???”

Once more, some of the press took the joke a tad too seriously, running with headlines that suggested Hammond would actually be launching a Prime Minister election campaign.

When in doubt, if Hammond has said it with a huge grin and rounded it off with her signature belly laugh, it’s probably not one to take too seriously.
