Alfredo Morelos earns Colombia call as Rangers star given major Copa America boost

Rangers star Alfredo Morelos has been rewarded for his brilliant form by being called up to the Colombia squad for two World Cup qualifiers.

Colombia face Peru and Argentina on June 3 and June 8 and Morelos is one of 26 players who have been given a call-up for the 2022 qualifiers.

That gives him a major boost of earning a place in Colombia's 2021 Copa America squad, which begins a week later with a squad to be announced soon.

The Rangers striker is named alongside the likes of James Rodriguez and Davinson Sanchez in a strong squad for the two games as Colombia try to get into the qualifying spots.

They currently sit seventh in the qualifying table with the top four automatically going to the tournament and fifth place making it into the playoffs.

Morelos has made 10 appearances for Colombia and scored his only goal for his country in a 1-0 win over Peru in November 2019, and could play against them again.

He was a key player for Steven Gerrard's side as they won the Premiership title and he was centre of the players celebrations after the match.

He wasn't as prolific in front of goal for the Ibrox men but still netted 17 goals in 43 games.
