Alexandra Daddario's rug marks the sharp end of minimalist floor trends – it's a transformative decorating tool that designers love

Alexandra Daddario.

Over the last few years, a minimalist aesthetic has felt impossible to rival. This style is soothing, versatile, and effortlessly chic – impossible to beat – until we saw Persian-style Alexandra Daddario's rug.

The actress shared a glimpse into her summer life in the Hamptons, where she is seen atop an ornate rug that makes us rethink rug trends as we look towards the rest of the year (and far beyond).

While there's always a case for minimalism (and it's perfect in some contexts), this richly-patterned rug brings a unique sense of timelessness and unrivaled character to Alexandra's space.

As designers explain, it's more than functional. It's the perfect base for a characterful room 'with a story to tell,' and the style has already endured through the centuries, meaning it's timeless in every sense of the word.

Alexandra's piece marks a shift in carpet trends, but this comes as no surprise to design experts. Camilla Stannard, the founder of Lilla Rugs, also notes that muted minimalism is out in 2025, and bigger, bolder, and better designs are taking center stage.

'2025 is the year for playing with colour, pattern, and texture. It’s all about showing personality with bold colours and vibrant patterns. Traditional oriental rugs showcase bright hues of red, yellow, and blue, making them the perfect rug choice for 2025,' Lilla comments.

'Coupled with their decorative borders and intricately woven designs, they can transform rooms into characterful spaces with a story to tell.'

These design trend predictions are a sharp turn from the popular design aesthetics we have seen in recent years. Still, they come with an (unintentional) endorsement from Alexandra, support from Lilla, and have already proved they can stand the test of time. It's impossible not to love.

'Following on from minimalism, quiet luxury, and Magnolia 2.0, we expect to see an explosion of color coupled with intricate designs, fun textures, and exciting, statement accents,' Lilla says.
