SCOTTISH Rugby has sacked chief executive Alex Williamson following an investigation into his conduct.
Williamson, who took over at Murrayfield in January 2025, was placed on a period of "extended leave" in May while an independent investigation took place.
However, a statement issued on Thursday afternoon confirmed he has been dismissed with immediate effect.
Scottish Rugby Ltd chairman John McGuigan said Williamson's conduct had fallen "significantly below" the expected standard.
McGuigan said: “The board of Scottish Rugby has today dismissed Alex Williamson from his position as chief executive with immediate effect.
"His dismissal follows the conclusion of an independent investigation into matters that were brought to the board’s attention earlier this year.
"In light of the investigation findings, the board of Scottish Rugby concluded that the CEO’s conduct had fallen significantly below the standards we set as an organisation.”
It is understood Williamson had entered into an undisclosed relationship with a Scottish Rugby employee.
David White, Scottish Rugby's chief financial officer, will take over as chief executive on an interim basis while the search for a new permanent CEO begins.
