Alex Reid shares his heartbreak as coronavirus halts his IVF journey

Alex Reid and his fiancée Nikki Manashe's IVF journey has been halted.

The former husband of Katie Price, 44, shared his "sadness" of the decision on Friday night with a heartbreaking Instagram post.

He explained that due to the outbreak of COVID -19 that he and Nikki, 34, will not be able to have treatment for some time.

Since the coronavirus pandemic UK health bosses have decided to cancel non-urgent operations and procedures from April 15.

Alex told his followers: "It brings me with great sadness that due to the current coronavirus pandemic, @hsfc_uk have decided to make health and safety a priority for all patients and staff.

"Therefore IVF treatment is now stopping till further notice for me and @ivf_chasing_dreams #ivfjourney #ivfcommunity #ivfgotthis."

He illustrated the post with a snap of a heart broken heart shape with a plaster stuck over the top.

Alex and Nikki, who became engaged in 2014, were due to undergo their fifth round of In vitro fertilisation in hopes of having a child.

In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is a medical technique available to help people with fertility problems have a baby.

According to the NHS website, during IVF, an egg is removed from the woman's ovaries and fertilised with sperm in a laboratory.

The fertilised egg, called an embryo, is then returned to the woman's womb to grow and develop.

The couple have been trying for a baby for years.

They sadly suffered one ectopic pregnancy and a number of miscarriages, including twins, and have never been able to get past the 12-week mark.

Alex met Nikki at a gym in 2013. The couple hit it off instantly and their whirlwind romance quickly got serious when IVF blogger Nikki fell pregnant.

But the pregnancy was ectopic, and almost burst one of her Fallopian tubes.

The trauma has since made it incredibly difficult for Nikki to conceive naturally.

Alex has thrown himself whole-heartedly into working together with his fiancée to improve their fertility.

He has given up alcohol, caffeine and hot baths in the hopes of giving his sperm the best chance at health.
