Alex Gogic: Anything can happen in cup games - Hamilton can beat Rangers

Alex Gogic says Hamilton knocking Rangers out of the William Hill Scottish Cup fifth round would make a huge statement, but says they must be confident that they can do it.

The Cypriot midfielder says anything can happen in a one-off, knock-out game, and that football throws up surprises, citing Greece winning the 2004 European Championships as an example.

Gogic is under no illusions that it will be easy for Accies to progress to the quarter-finals after Saturday's 12.30pm showdown at the Fountain of Youth Stadium, but says they must believe.

"We have been enjoying playing good games, but we just have to get that win, and it's a knock-out, so we have to focus and try our best to stay in the cup," said Gogic.

"It would mean a lot, especially to take Rangers out of the cup. That would be a big statement.

"It's not easy, but it's possible. It's football, it's one game. You have to beat big teams to win the cup, so we can do that now, or in the final.

"It's a cup game, it's a knock-out and everything can happen - Greece won the Euros in 2004, so exactly that."

Hamilton drew 1-1 at St Mirren on Wednesday, and Gogic says it was a chance to take three points that was missed.

He said: "It was a tough game. In the second half it wasn't as good as the first half, in the first half we were on top of them.

"If we scored the penalty it's a different story, but that's football.

"We will take confidence from our last two games, but we have to improve, we have to look at how we could have improved in the second half against St Mirren, and take that on board."
