Alex Cox Announces Repo Man Sequel: The Wages Of Beer

Repo Man: iconic blend of sci-fi and punk rock culture

The 1980s saw the emergence of a cult classic in the form of Repo Man, a film that seamlessly blended sci-fi elements with punk rock culture. Directed by Alex Cox, the movie left an indelible mark on cinema history. Fast forward to the present day, and Cox has announced a sequel to this iconic film, titled Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer.

In a recent interview, Cox shared details about the upcoming project, describing it as both a reimagining and a continuation of the original story. The sequel will follow the protagonist, Otto, now portrayed by Kiowa Gordon, as he navigates a world that has evolved with technological advancements. Otto, who has aged only 90 minutes in the last 40 years, finds himself longing for the simplicity of the past, yearning for beer, booty, and a world without the specter of nuclear war.

The original Repo Man was known for its sci-fi comedy narrative and a punk rock soundtrack featuring artists like Iggy Pop. Set in Los Angeles, the film followed a young punk rocker entangled in a car repossession agency's quest for a mysterious Chevrolet Malibu, possibly linked to extraterrestrials.

Cox had previously attempted a sequel titled Repo Man: Otto’s Hawaiian Holiday, which faced challenges and was eventually shelved. However, it inspired a documentary and a graphic novel. Cox also created a low-budget spin-off, Repo Chick. Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer marks his second attempt to continue Otto Maddox's punk rock saga.

The sequel has entered production, with filming expected to start in mid-2024. Cox's vision for Repo Man 2 promises to blend nostalgia with contemporary themes, offering a fresh perspective on Otto Maddox's world. Fans, both old and new, are eagerly anticipating another adventure through the unique universe crafted by Alex Cox.
