Alesha MacPhail's evil killer granted date for appeal against prison sentence

Alesha MacPhail's evil killer Aaron Campbell has been given a date to appeal his 27-year prison sentence.

The 17-year-old was convicted of abducting, raping and murdering the Airdrie six-year-old on the Isle of Bute last July.

He denied the charges throughout a two-week trial earlier this year before admitted his horrific crimes shortly before his sentencing.

Campbell, who was 16 at the time revealed he viewed the moment he walked into the bedroom in which Alesha was sleeping as "a moment of opportunity".

Judge Lord Matthews gave him a mandatory life sentence and ordered him to spend at least 27 years behind bars.

A spokesman from the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service confirmed that Campbell has been granted an appeal, which will be heard by three judges in Edinburgh later this year on August 7.
