Alesha Dixon denied she was 'banned' from performing on BGT amid scandal

Alesha Dixon is usually sat in the judges seat on Britain's Got Talent - but she has tried to get up on stage to perform.

She sang live on the show in 2015, but the following year she was allegedly 'banned' from using the show as a platform to relaunch her music career.

It was reported that she was hoping to sing her new single Stop during the live final, but was allegedly given a polite 'no' by Simon Cowell.

At the time, a source told The Sun: "Alesha is disappointed but appreciates she can't complain too loudly.

"She knows how fortunate she is being on a show of BGT's size so would never want to put that at risk."

This came just hours after the Mis-Teeq singer's comments about a set of contestants caused some controversy.

The 43-year-old judge was giving her opinion on the band Vox Fortura after they performed their version of David Bowie 's Heroes on the ITV talent show.

Alesha said: "Four sexy chocolate men, with amazing voices, polished to perfection, that was sensational well done.".

Reports suggested that the BGT judge faced consequences and "disappointment" for her comments on the popular competition show

Her comment created diverse opinions as viewers took to Twitter to slam her choice of wording.

At the time, one wrote: "Can Alesha get away with saying what she said about @Vox_Fortura? Had it been any of the other judges, they'd be called racist #BGT."

" Alesha Dixon saying 'Chocolate Men' is surely racist right? I mean, that was so, so, so scandalous," another penned.

However, one fan came to the star's defence as they claimed they were "so done with [Simon] and his shows" amid the scandal.

They wrote: "If The papers are true that @SimonCowell has banned Alesha from performing I'm so do with him and his shows! Alesha was not f****ing racist".

Alesha broke her silence and came out to defend herself on Twitter.

Responding to a message, Alesha wrote: "Hey darling, I haven't been banned! I told you don't believe what u read! Papers having a party right now! pmsl :)".

Alesha became a household name when she won BBC's Strictly Come Dancing in 2007 that led to her being appointed one of the show's judges.

In 2012, she left the panel to join Britain's Got Talent and reportedly bagged a deal with ITV that was triple the money of her original salary.

Her decade-long role aside co-stars Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Simon has helped amount to her incredible fortune that's reportedly worth around £2.9 million.

The singer-songwriter has spent 20 years in the public eye after coming to fame in the early 2000s.

Alesha's success has amounted throughout the years - from being a founding member of Mis-Teeq to being ever-present in entertainment competitions, including The X Factor, RuPaul's Drag Race UK, Australia's Got Talent and Walk The Line.

She has multiple projects under her belt, making her an accomplished businessperson.

The star has launched her own jewellery line and lucrative endorsement deals, including the likes of Ford, Toblerone, cosmetics company Avon and airline Thomson Airways.
