Alec Baldwin seen moments before Rust shooting as police release footage from set

Alec Baldwin can be seen moments before the fatal shooting on the set of Rust after police released unseen footage from the film set.

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, was fatally shot by a gun the actor was holding while he rehearsed a scene for the Western in the horrifying incident in October last year.

In one of the clips released by the Santa Fe Police Department, the 64-year-old can be seen dressed as a cowboy inside a church and practising with a gun, whipping out the weapon and aiming it off camera as he rehearsed a scene.

Other distressing footage includes bodycam footage showing paramedics battling to save Halyna following the shooting, which also left director Joel Souza with injuries.

Police footage also shows officers speaking to Alec after the incident, as the actor denied knowing there were live rounds of ammunition on the movie set.

The clips also feature a discussion between police and director Joel, who was speaking to them while in hospital, telling officers he heard a “loud bang”.

“It felt like someone had kicked me in the shoulder - and then I was down on my a*s,” he explained.

“Then I looked over and saw the cinematographer with blood coming out of her back.”

Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza also released photos from the crime scene, as well as interviews with witnesses, including Alec.

The actor, who also served as a producer on the movie, denied pulling the trigger, and insisted he had no idea who a live bullet came to be on the set.

In a statement from the Santa Fe Sheriff, he said the investigation “remains open and ongoing”.

He added that there are outstanding issues remaining in the investigation, such as firearms forensics, and analysis of Alec’s phone.

“Once these investigative components are provided to the sheriff's office we will be able to complete the investigation to forward it to the Santa Fe District Attorney for review,” Sheriff Mendoza said.

Authorities have so far refused to rule out filing criminal charges over the incident.
