Alec Baldwin faces backlash over posed Halloween photos days after colleague's death on set

Alec Baldwin has been criticised after his wife Hilaria shared Instagram snaps of their family celebrating Halloween, just days after he shot dead Halyna Hutchins on the Rust movie set.

The Baldwin family have faced backlash after Alec's wife posted the photos and a video of the pair and their six children dressed in ghoulish costumes.

According to The Mirror, the five photos show 63-year-old Alec smiling in a costume from kids’ classic “Where the Wild Things Are.”

Other snaps seen Hilaria posing for a picture with daughters Carmen, eight, and Maria Lucia Victoria, eight months, with them all in matching black spiderweb-decorated dresses.

She posted her pictures hours after a new report revealed there had been at least three other accidental gun discharges on the set of Rust before Hutchins was killed.

The backlash to her posting of pictures was immediate.

Leigh Daly, tweeted: “Alec Baldwin did your wife actually post Halloween photos on Instagram. So inappropriate and so not a good look.”

In a direct message to the actor on Twitter, Mary Wonder wrote: “Your wife posting Halloween pics and feeling sorry for herself is completely tone-deaf to this situation.

Another added: “Can you actually believe the audacity of them and Hillary’s (sic) thirst for attention?”

One tweeted: “Not a good look posting this happy family pic right after a mother died by his hands. Accident or not. Shows the type of people they are.”

The couple did receive some support.

On Monday, mum-of-one Hutchins' final words emerged after she was shot by Baldwin last month while he was rehearsing a scene.

After being struck by a live round in the chest while on set, the 42-year-old said: “That was no good. That was no good at all.”

Hours later, she was pronounced dead.

The final words of Hutchins, who had been working as the director of photography on Baldwin’s upcoming Western film, were based on interviews with 14 crew members, emails and text messages.

A few moments earlier, Baldwin had been preparing for a shootout scene inside a church by making sure the camera crew got its angles right for the cross draw with the .45-caliber Colt revolver.

“So, I guess I’m gonna take this out, pull it and go, ‘Bang’” he said as he gripped the holstered handgun, which was supposed to be loaded with dummy rounds.

Instead, a live bullet flew out the pistol, which the actor had been told was a “cold gun" - a production term that means the weapon doesn’t contain live rounds and is safe for rehearsal.

After being struck Hutchins stumbled backwards and fell into the arms of the chief electrician as blood poured out of her chest.

Meanwhile, director Joel Souza, who was reportedly struck by the same round, also dropped to the floor.

“What the f was that? That burns,” he shouted.

Baldwin put the gun down on a pew and repeatedly said, “What the f just happened?”

The FBI is investigating Hutchins' death as prosecutors refused to rule out criminal charges against the actor.

Last week police described the star as “an active part of the investigation” while saying the movie set riddled with “complacency”.

When asked if Baldwin would be prosecuted, Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said: "All options are on the table at this point. We cannot answer that question yet until we conduct a thorough investigation.”

She added: "I must emphasise that a complete and thorough investigation is critical to the DA review.

“We take the corroborated facts and evidence and connect it to New Mexico law, and we are not at that juncture yet.”

She added: "If the facts in evidence and law support charges, then I will initiate prosecution at that time. I'm a prosecutor that was elected in part because I do not make rash decisions and I do not rush to judgment," she said.

"I rely on facts supported by evidence, cooperative and credible witnesses, and I cannot stress the importance of allowing the Santa Fe county sheriff's office to continue with their quality investigation that is both serious and complex.”

Investigators revealed they have found more than 500 rounds of ammunition on the set including blank and live bullets.
