Aldi responds to claims 'rotten turkey ruined Christmas' for shoppers

When it comes to buying a Christmas turkey, everyone has their preferred supermarket.

Asda, Aldi, Tesco and Sainsbury's all stocked up this year - and shoppers flocked to buy themselves a bird as they attempted to make the most of Christmas.

However, some shoppers were left disappointed when they opened up their turkeys, as they discovered 'rotting' meat.

According to Yorkshire Live, Jane Spicer received a gone off turkey from Aldi. She said: "thanks for the gone off turkey woke up to this gone off even tho in date and been in a cold fridge thanks for ruining our Christmas."

Another shopper tweeted: "Rotten turkey... in date and kept in the fridge... thanks #aldi."

" @AldiUK I have opened my turkey and it stinks ,thanks aldi," tweeted a third.

A fourth shopper, who opted for duck, said: "Hi Aldi. Just wanted to inform you that that duck I bought from you is rotten. The use by date is 26th December. I open that today and it smells terrible.

"Meat is slimy and grey. Thanks for waisting my Christmas Dinner. I'm really disappointed."

Aldi has already tweeted numerous apologies and encouraged customers to get in touch so their complaints can be resolved.

A spokesperson told Manchester Evening News: "We are sorry that a small number of our products did not meet our usual high standards.

"Customers can return any Aldi product that they are not completely satisfied with to their nearest store for a full refund."
