Aldi confirm major change to home delivery days after Specialbuy announcement

Aldi shoppers will no longer be able to order certain items for home delivery as part of an update that encourages customers to physically head in store. Some of the items that will be phased out include their award-winning wines and spirits.

The budget supermarket issued the update in an email to customers over the weekend, just days after a statement that confirmed shoppers will not be able to order Specialbuys online from Autumn.

The retailer has said the decision has been made to ‘keep our prices low’. Their alcohol lines will still be available to buy in store and via click and collect.

The email to customers read: “All Aldi stores offer an amazing range of award-winning beers, wines and spirits at affordable prices.

“With almost 1,000 Aldi stores now open in the UK, and over 200 stores offering our Click and Collect service, we’ve made the difficult decision to stop selling wine and spirits on our website for home delivery in the coming weeks.

“If you have ordered wines and spirits from us online before, thank you, and we hope you can visit us in store soon.”

The retailer is set to phase out Specialbuys online later this year, too - a decision which shoppers have had a strong reaction to.

Aldi continued: “You may have also heard about changes to our online Specialbuys service too. But don’t worry, we’re not making any changes just yet so keep your eyes peeled for some amazing Specialbuy offers appearing online in the coming months.”

The supermarket is set to open ‘many more’ stores this year, too, in a bid to bring their middle aisle finds and low prices to ‘more people across the country’.

A spokesperson for Aldi added: “Aldi is more popular than ever, and we are prioritising making our wine and Specialbuy products available in our stores. We keep our prices low by being the most efficient retailer in Britain and we have therefore taken the decision to stop selling wine and spirits online for home delivery from later this month. We will also stop selling our Specialbuys online for home delivery later this year.

"Our grocery click and collect service will continue, and we would like to thank every customer that has bought Aldi products online. Aldi will continue to consider new digital services in the future."
