Albert Square Shopping Centre in Widnes put up for auction

A Cheshire shopping centre complete with 32 food and convenience stores has been put up for auction.

A buyer is being sought for the leasehold of Albert Square Shopping Centre in Widnes, with Allsop listing the 84,841sq ft property with a guide price of between £2m and £2.5m.

Tenants at the site include Iceland, Lloyds Bank and Savers, with the site also containing a 290-space free car park.

Footfall in 2019 was around 3.3m, the listing adds, while the figure for total current gross rent is just over £580,000.

Allsop said the auction will take place online on May 6, with the site held on a lease from the council for 125 years at a base ground rent of £30,000 per annum.

The listing said that the Sports Direct unit on site is not included in the sale.

It added: "Widnes is an established commuter town on the north bank of the River Mersey, some 11 miles east of Liverpool and 5 miles west of Warrington.

"The town boasts good road communication. The buildings are generally arranged to provide ground floor sales with first floor staff ancillary/storage accommodation."
