Former England stars Alan Shearer and Ashley Cole have agreed on how Phil Foden should be utilised by Gareth Southgate at this summer's European Championships.
The Three Lions are looking to build upon a stellar campaign at the World Cup in Russia three years ago, where they were defeated by Croatia in the semi-finals.
Southgate's squad has evolved since then, with Foden among those making an impression at club and international level to be a decisive player in both squads.
England's side now has the best depth in a generation, giving Southgate tough decisions to make, but Shearer believes that Foden should be a starter.
Having named Liverpool's Jordan Henderson as one starter, Shearer said: "I know he hasn't [played in a long time] but he's got another couple of weeks to try and prove his fitness which he'll have to do because I don't think the manager will be prepared to take too many gambles having been in that position himself before.
"[Mason] Mount, as we said before the game, I think he is a guaranteed starter, as with Foden I am hoping because of the ability of those two. Harry Kane and [Raheem] Sterling as well."
Former Chelsea star Ashley Cole agreed with that assessment on Foden, adding: "The quality of players that Gareth has at his disposal is unbelievable. We didn't even talk about Reece James.
"Could you play three at the back with Reece playing and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] a little bit further up the pitch? Mount, Foden, Jadon Sancho too - so much quality there so it is going to be a headache but what a problem for Gareth to have!"
Foden has earned six caps with England since making his debut last year, scoring a brace in a 4-0 victory against Iceland in November.
He is likely to be joined by City teammates John Stones and Raheem Sterling in the England squad for the summer tournament.
