Airdrie golfer Greg Dalziel impresses at Nick Faldo Classic against PGA talent

Young Airdrie golfer Greg Dalziel started the new season in good form at the Faldo Classic.

The 18-year-old took to the Nick Faldo designed course at the Amendoeira Golf Resort in Portugal last week.

Competing with golfers currently on the various PGA golf tours, including the EuroPro Tour, the Challenger Tour and the European Tour Greg was up for the challenge.

Having finished the first day in 15th position on two over par he pulled out the stops on the second day to finish on one under.

An unfortunate bogey on the last hole cost him second place but pushed him up the leaderboard to finish in a creditable sixth place in a field of more than 70 golfers.

The former Caldervale High School pupil said: “Considering I haven’t managed to play any golf since November, I am really happy with the way I played.

“Having finished in sixth place in such a strong field is a major confidence boost for me.

“I am targeting qualification for the PGA EuroPro Tour next month and this competition shows that I can compete at that level.”
