Air ambulance and police race to multi-vehicle crash on A96 in Aberdeenshire

Emergency services have raced to a multi-vehicle smash on a busy Scots road this afternoon.

Mercy crews, including air ambulance teams, have been called to the A96 in Insch, Aberdeenshire, after the alarm was raised at around 2.15pm on Thursday. Officers were alerted to the report of a collision involving a lorry and three vehicles.

Police attended and quickly closed the road in both directions between the junctions for the A97 and A920. Motorists are warned that traffic is currently building following the accident.

A picture taken from the scene showed the multi-emergency response, with police, a road ambulance and an air ambulance pictured in attendance. It's understood fire crews are also at the scene.

The extent of any injuries is so far unclear.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.15pm on Thursday officers were called to reports of a crash involving a lorry and three vehicles on the A96 near Colpy, Insch.

"Emergency services are at the scene. The A96 is currently closed in both directions between the A97 and A920 junctions."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 2.20pm on Thursday, 12 January to reports of a road traffic collision involving three cars and a HGV lorry on the A96 near Kirkton of Culsalmond, Aberdeenshire.

"Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene. No firefighting was required, however crews safely removed one female casualty who was trapped inside a car, who has now been placed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

"Three other casualties are also receiving medical checks and crews remain in attendance to make the area safe."
