Aiden McGeady provides Hibs injury update as he admits disappointment in latest injury

Aiden McGeady says an injury from last season that likely wasn't properly fixed is what has brought a nightmare start to his Hibs spell.

The 36-year-old had a medial ligament injury at Sunderland last season and that has followed north of the border. He is set to miss most of the first round of Premiership matches after picking up the knee injury in a game against Norwich City last month. It means manager Lee Johnson is without him for key games like this Sunday's Edinburgh derby with Hearts.

McGeady says it's a bitter pill to swallow so early into his time at Easter Road but that the next fortnight will be able to tell him a bit more of the extent of the damage. He told Go Radio: "It's not amazing. It's part and parcel of football, just a reoccurrence of a medial ligament tear I had last season that's probably not healed properly.

"It's very, very disappointing because I'm at a new club and I want to enjoy my football. That's why I'm here.

There are now chances Hibs could recruit another winger to try and cover for McGeady's absence, with former player Martin Boyle one potential option.
