Aiden McGeady Hibs injury vow as Lee Johnson reveals what crocked winger is 'very keen' to do

Lee Johnson insists crocked Hibernian winger Aiden McGeady is determined to play on at the club.

The former Celtic star has been luckless with injury since arriving at Easter Road to bolster attacking options for Johnson. The 37-year-old has had an operation on a torn hamstring having only been back from a long-term injury. It means McGeady has managed just 14 appearances for Hibs but has made an impact when fit and firing.

There were concerns his career could be over with this latest setback, but Johnson insists the only point of clarity in the whole situation is that the winger wants to play on. The English gaffer does admit his recovery is contingent on a crucial rehab process.

He said: “The update is that Aiden does want to play on. We’ve had a brief conversation but the main focus for us and for him is getting fit.

"We have to do that anyway and then there has to be a decision made on the back of that. It’s the right thing to do to make sure we see that process through – and that could be anywhere from 12 weeks to 24 weeks, depending on how he reacts to the surgery and how his rehab goes, and the age factor comes into it as well.

"The one thing I do know and I can publicly state is that he’s very, very keen to continue to play, and he’s very keen to continue to play for Hibs.

"Especially with a player that age, there’s a lot of consideration to decide on for him and for us, but he does want to play on.”
