KOTTAYAM: P S Abdul Kareem, father of Shibli and Shaduli who were among the 38 sentenced to death in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts case, said that he will go for appeal in higher courts against the verdict. Speaking to TOI, Kareem who is a retired teacher, said that he "firmly believes that his sons are innocent" and said that "there was no logic in the verdict."
He also said he is waiting for the copy of the verdict. "I never expected such a verdict. I thought that they would be let off," said Kareem, who resides in Erattupetta in the district.
"The blasts happened when they were in jail in another case. My sons were arrested for conspiracy in the blasts. The other accused persons in the case were in other jails across the country. How can people in different jails can together hold a conspiracy?," the 70-year-old Kareem asked.
Kareem has five children, three sons and two daughters. All his children were good in studies. Shibli, the eldest son, is a diploma holder in computer engineering and has worked in software companies in Bengaluru and Mumbai. The 45-year-old man is married and has four children.
