Ahmedabad: Satellite bizman files complaint over kidnapping by associate

AHMEDABAD: A Satellite resident has registered a complaint of kidnapping and extortion against five men, including his associate, who he says abducted him from Bodakdev and demanded Rs 25 lakh.

Vimal Shah, 42, lodged his complaint on Friday with Vastrapur police. The FIR has only partial names of most of the accused: Ramesh Piprotar, Keshu, Dinesh, and Munna. One accused is yet to be identified. Police have filed a case under several IPC sections including 365 (kidnapping), 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt in order to commit extortion), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506-2 (criminal intimidation).

Shah told police that he is a groundnut trader and had business dealings with Piprotar. He said that in February 2020, he had purchased groundnut from Piprotar and had given three cheques as security and later paid Rs 4.5 lakh through an angadia firm. He said that eight months ago, he had paid the remaining Rs 2.37 lakh through a friend, Veja Odedara. Thereafter, all the cheques were returned to Odedara.

Shah said that on Friday morning he was kidnapped by Piprotar and others and pushed into a car. He said he was driven around the city and the extortion attempt was made. He said that he managed to get out of the car in Limbdi under the pretext of buying paan masala. He said that he managed to get into a truck and called his wife and sister-in-law. He said he was picked up by them at Bavla Crossroads.

Shah then went to the Vastrapur police station and lodged a complaint against the five.
