Sol Campbell has held talks with Southend about becoming the club's new manager.
The League One side have been without a permanent boss following the resignation of Kevin Bond six weeks ago, with the Shrimpers currently eight points from safety in 22nd place in the league table.
Former Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United star Henrik Larsson was on the verge of replacing Bond at Roots Hall, but talks between the two broke down on Tuesday following weeks of negotiations.
And now United chairman Ron Martin has revealed that Campbell is on the Essex club’s radar to become their new boss.
"I put the phone down from [Campbell’s agent] Tim Lopez about five minutes before you called," Martin told talkSPORT on Wednesday afternoon.
"So yeah, Sol is on my radar.

"I said to Tim I’d come back to him before the close of play.
"If Sol is listening to this I think he would know this because I said it at the interview, I was impressed with him. He’s an eloquent guy, he's passionate and I like his team.
"That’s not impossible. He is available."
Campbell has been out of management since leaving Macclesfield Town back in August after just eight months in charge.
The former England man's departure was "by mutual consent" and came with the League Two club facing a winding-up order amid off-field financial issuess.
The 44-year-old took over Town in November 2018 with them bottom of League Two, but Campbell kept the Silkmen in the Football League thanks to a run of just two defeats in their final 10 games.
