After Resuming Flights, Najran’s Domestic Airport Accommodates 30,000 Passengers

Saudi Arabia's southern Najran Regional Airport, since it resumed flights after a 4-year hiatus, has accommodated at least 30,000 passengers that are flying with the kingdom’s national carrier, Saudia. Most travelers are army servicemen deployed to safeguard the country’s southern borders with war-ravaged Yemen.

A press release by Saudia revealed that the national carrier has been offering additional services to accommodate passengers since the Saudi-led Arab Coalition launched operations to aid Yemen’s internationally-recognized government defeat Iran-backed insurgents.

War in neighboring Yemen has forced the Najran airport to close until early last May. During the hiatus, Saudia doubled flights inbound and outbound to and from other terminals available in the vicinity.

During the shutdown, Saudia also initiated some measures to facilitate the travel of the people of Najran and the armed forces stationed at the border. These procedures include conducting all flights to and from Najran via Abha’s domestic airport and providing free bus transportation between the two airports for travelers.

It is worth noting that in the four years of Najran’s airfield shuttering, Saudia served more than 204,000 visitors to and from Najran via Abha Airport.
