JAIPUR: After a week’s gap, the south-west monsoon revived in the state on Sunday with torrential rainfall lashing Kota and Udaipur divisions. Weather was pleasant in Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions where mild to moderate showers were witnessed.
Many places including Kota, Jhalawar, Baran, Bundi, Jaipur, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Dausa, Alwar, Bharatpur, Sawai Madhopur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara and Pratapgarh witnessed mild to moderate showers since morning, bringing much-awaited respite from prolonged spell of heat and humid conditions.
In Kota, heavy rainfall was witnessed almost in every part of the district as rainfall was widespread. Rainfall started at 5am and continued till 11am followed by light drizzling. Similarly, heavy rainfall was also witnessed in Udaipur, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Sawai Madhopur and Alwar districts of the state.
Jaipur received overnight rainfall which continued till 10.30am on Sunday.
Showers lashed almost every locality in Jaipur and low-lying areas including colonies adjoining Amanishah Nullah, Shastri Nagar, Bhatta Basti, Jawahar Nagar Kachchi Basti and some parts of Pratap Nagar witnessed rampant water-logging.
Rainfall varying from 20mm to 40mm was received in various parts of the city.
Many colonies also witnessed abrupt power cuts.
Jaipur Met office said this spell of monsoon will continue for at least 72 hours when moderate to heavy showers would be witnessed across the state. "Most importantly, the rainfall recorded on Sunday was widespread for the first time since onset of monsoon on June 18. Many places also witnessed torrential rainfall," said an officer with Jaipur Met office.
A rainfall varying from 80mm to 10mm was recorded in various districts of state.
