After 84 years, a copy of the book 'Red Deer' by Richard Jefferies has been returned to Earlsdon Library, Coventry in the UK by Paddy Riordan!
The book was borrowed by Paddy Riordan's grandfather, late Capt William Humphries, in 1938 for the latter's daughter who was six years old then. And now when Riordan found the book in his late mother's house, he decided to return back to the library.
"I feel I have expunged my grandfather's crime," Riordan said, as per the BBC.
What's more? Riordan also donated an amount of £18.27 (roughly INR 1745) to the library-- which would have been the fine considering the per day overdue rate of the 1930s.
The news was shared by the library on their social media page. "Here's something you don't see every day... a copy of Red Deer by Richard Jefferies has been returned to us - a mere 84 years and two weeks overdue! Paddy Riordan returned the book to us from his grandfather's collection and kindly donated the fine calculated at the then rate of 1d per week, totalling £18.27 in today's money...How wonderful that the book has finally made its way home!," their post read on Instagram.
