Adrian Peterson will go down in the history books as the winner of the 2019 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.
Given to the player who shows outstanding sportsmanship on the field, Peterson was one of eight finalists after every team nominated one player. The final vote took place on the Pro Bowl ballot and was revealed over the weekend.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell issued this statement about the award:
“Art Rooney is an iconic figure in NFL history,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell at the time the award was introduced. “It is appropriate that we honor his legacy in this way and recognize NFL players for one of the important values that Mr. Rooney represented so well.”
Peterson receives a $25,000 donation to put toward a charity of his choice.
