The government has summarized its view stating that current limits on admission to large events, such as professional baseball games, can be eased if new infection control technologies are introduced at venues, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned.
The government hopes to relax restrictions through further experiments and improvement, officials said Wednesday.
After conducting an experiment at Yokohama Stadium where the limit on admission was increased from 50% of the stadium's capacity to 80% between Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, the government discovered that measures, including the introduction of technologies that track spectators' movements, "can create an environment in which the level of infection prevention is the same, irrelevant of the 50% or 80% limit," the sources said.
For the time being, the government will ease restrictions on admission to concert venues and movie theaters where infection control measures are introduced.
For New Year visits to shrines and temples, which are expected to draw large crowds, the government is calling on people to be wary of crowds and refrain from eating and drinking on the premises.
