Adama Traore would 'jump at chance' to become £20m Liverpool wildcard

Liverpool have been told by former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips that reported transfer target Adama Traore would not turn down the opportunity to join the club if a bid was made.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers winger is said to have been on the radar of Anfield officials for a number of years now but have so far turned their attention to other targets.

With Traore constantly linked with a move away from Wolves, Liverpool are once again a possible destination given his ability to offer something different to what Jurgen Klopp currently has.

The former Barcelona starlet's direct play and lightning speed would add a different dimension to the Reds' attack and while his goal output has been largely poor during his time at Molineux, it is clear he is a player with a lot to offer.

Phillips, who won the Premier League Golden Boot during his time at Sunderland, believes that should Klopp and Liverpool want to bring Traore to Merseyside, a deal would be done as the player would not turn down the opportunity.

“I think that deal will happen," Phillips told Football Insider.

“Traore would jump at the chance to join Liverpool. You do not turn that opportunity down, even if you are going to sit on the bench a little bit. Traore has been at Wolves a while now.

“From Liverpool’s point of view, £20million is a good price for player who can hurt teams from the bench. He is what he is though, he can also frustrate the hell out of you.

“As an impact player I think he’d be a good signing though. I think for £20million it is a good deal all round.”

Traore played against Klopp's side on Saturday evening and caused the Liverpool defence trouble throughout.

Klopp has spoken of his admiration for the 25-year-old on many occasions and his talent was on constant display as the Reds ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a late goal from Divock Origi.

“They defended deep with a lot of players and go for counter attacks and it’s really difficult as there’s no-one as quick as [Adama] Traore," Klopp said on BBC Sport after the game.

"[Traore] is unplayable in moments, it’s unbelievable,” Klopp said after Liverpool edged Wolves out 2-1 at Molineux in the Premier League in 2020. “What a player – it’s not only him but he’s so good."
