The Australian leg-spinner was in superb form, returning impressive figures of 2 for 11 in his four overs, including a maiden, and was rightfully named Player of the Match for his decisive contribution.
Zampa is now set to feature in Karachi Kings’ upcoming clash against Rawalpindi on Thursday, carrying strong momentum from his standout performance.
Ahead of the match, Zampa opened up about his decision to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) instead of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The leg-spinner revealed that he had initially planned to take a break, especially after not being included in the 350-player shortlist for the IPL 2026 auction. He was also released by Sunrisers Hyderabad prior to the auction, which further influenced his decision.
Speaking candidly, Zampa said that his skill set does not typically attract the kind of high bids seen in the IPL, making the league a less practical option considering the significant time commitment it demands.
“I wasn’t really on the radar. I pulled out of the IPL this year. To be brutally honest, someone with my skill set doesn’t usually attract the kind of money that other skill sets do. Considering the time commitment the IPL requires, it didn’t feel like a reasonable choice for me to continue playing it,” Zampa said.
He added that the PSL opportunity came unexpectedly but at the right time. “I was planning to take a break, but then the PSL came into the picture about a month ago. It’s all happened pretty quickly, but I’m enjoying it,” he shared.
Zampa has previously played in the IPL for franchises such as Rising Pune Supergiant, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Across 22 IPL matches, he has taken 31 wickets.
His current form in the PSL, however, highlights his continued value as a skilled leg-spinner, even as he explores opportunities outside the IPL spotlight.
