Adam Ramsay-Peaty snubbed his family as he celebrated doing “much better” in the 50m breaststroke semi-final at the Commonwealth Games.
The Olympian had broken down in tears on Saturday as he missed out on 100m breaststroke gold, admitting the bitter fallout with his estranged family has “taken its toll”.
The 31-year-old failed to mention the Peatys as he made the final in the 50m, instead crediting his pregnant wife Holly for supporting him through a “whirlwind” 24 hours.
“The last 24 hours have been a bit of a whirlwind, not something I'm not used to,” he said in his post-race interview.
“But I guess in sport, it's not really about when you get beat down because it's going to be inevitable that you do that, you make mistakes - it's how it takes you to look at that, perspective, turn it around for tonight and I'm really happy for that. On a great trajectory for tomorrow.”
Asked who he leans on for support, he went on: “It was a lot of people I talk to, obviously my wife, my coach, my best mate Ed. You've got your friends, your teammates.”
“The best way to get everything out in my head, is to just write it out, I write down what is going wrong, what is going right, what can I change, what can't I change and then I've got a battle plan.
“I can go, ‘Right I can do with this,’ take it into tomorrow. So even now I'm thinking, what's part of that battle plan.”
On Saturday, Ramsay-Peaty, considered one of Britain's greatest swimmers, took aim at the very public rift with his family as he went home with a bronze medal after finishing third place in the 100m breaststroke final.
He has claimed gold medals in each of his three previous Commonwealth Games and was visibly disappointed not to claim a fourth.
In an interview, Ramsay-Peaty said: "It's hard because I know how hard I've worked. I know the s**t I've been through, which is no fault of my own. It does take a toll."
His recent career and nuptials with Holly last December were overshadowed by headlines over a fallout with his family.
The only member of the Peaty family to attend the ceremony at Bath Abbey on December 27, 2025, was Adam's sister Bethany, while his parents and brothers were notably absent.
His mother Caroline, who spent years taking her son to early morning sports practice, was also not invited to Holly's hen party at Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds, while her mother Tana and family friend Victoria Beckham were in attendance.
Months later, Ramsay-Peaty posted on Instagram that there are "two sides to every story" as news of the feud caught press attention.
Since his wedding, Adam's sister Bethany has also reportedly fallen out with his wife Holly, The Mail on Sunday reports.
Despite his disappointment at the Commonwealth Games Ramsay-Peaty vowed to compete at next month’s European Aquatics Championships in Paris, to be held from August 10 to 16.
He added: “Over the last couple of months I've had to make some hard decisions so I could focus on doing my job.
“I've had to ignore a lot of the rubbish people write online. Enough is enough. This goes beyond sport. It's about being decent people. We all have to do better.
“My wife will always be proud of me. As a father, it doesn't matter whether you come home with a gold medal, as long as you come home. That's what really matters.”
