Olympic heroes Adam Peaty and Tom Daley have received OBEs in the New Year's Honours list.
Daley, 27, fulfilled a lifelong ambition in Tokyo this summer when at the fourth time of asking he won Olympic gold, triumphing in the men's synchronised 10-metre platform with Matty Lee.
Peaty meanwhile, made history at the same Games by becoming the first British swimmer in history to successfully defend an Olympic title, r epeating his 100m breaststroke win from Rio five years earlier.
He duly won a second gold medal in Japan as part of the quartet to prevail in the mixed 4 × 100 metre medley relay.
Neither athlete is being honoured purely for their sporting achievements though. Daley, who is openly gay and has a surrogate son with partner Dustin Lance Black, is also recognised for raising awareness of LGBT issues, while Peaty, 27, is similarly credited for his work on mental health.
The pair's achievements in 2021 saw them make a six-person shortlist for the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award, with Daley eventually finishing second behind Emma Raducanu while Peaty, who in 2017 was given an MBE, was third.
Lee, whose appearance alongside Daley represented his first at an Olympic Games, receives a CBE.
Elsewhere, husband and wife duo Laura and Jason Kenny, receive a damehood and knighthood in the same honours list for their services to cycling.
With 12 Olympic gold medals between them, the pair are the most successful married couple in the history of the Olympics, while Jason is also the most decorated British athlete to ever compete in a Summer Games.
Laura, who intends to compete in Paris in 2024, is tied with Charlotte Dujardin for the most Olympic medals won by a British female.
Teenager Raducanu receives an MBE following her shock US Open win in September, which saw her reach the final at Flushing Meadows without dropping a set, before continuing that run by overcoming Leylah Fernandez.
There is also an OBE for Hannah Mills for sailing and her continued campaigning on marine pollution and wheelchair Paralympian Hannah Cockroft.
Other Olympians and Paralympians who are being honoured include a CBE for cyclist Jody Cundy, OBE for sprinter and cyclist Kadeena Cox, and MBEs for boxer Lauren Price, and BMX racer Bethany Shriever.
Gary Bennett, a former Sunderland footballer and one of the first three patrons of the charity Show Racism the Red Card, gets an MBE.
