Adam Gase ignoring trade deadline rumors as he focuses on preparing for Dolphins

A lot has happened at One Jets Drive recently, but head coach Adam Gase isn’t one to dwell on the past.

Wednesday was an eventful one for the Jets, as rumors surrounding Jamal Adams, Robby Anderson and Le’Veon Bell ran rampant leading up to the trade deadline. Joe Douglas met with media to do damage control and to cap off the day, Adams sent out a tweet voicing his displeasure that Douglas shopped him to other teams even though that was not actually the case.

Through all of this Gase remained steadfast in his preparation for the task at hand on Sunday — getting back on track with a win over the Dolphins. When speaking to the media on Wednesday, Gase reiterated that and refused to discuss anything that happened yesterday or in the past week in general.

“I’m talking about Miami,” Gase said.

It’s understandable as to why Gase doesn’t have any interest in discussing anything but the Dolphins. He has plenty more to worry about than trade rumors. Sam Darnold has struggled the past two weeks and his offense is among the worst in the league. To make matters worse, the Jets are banged up on both sides of the ball, leaving Gase to fill a handful of key positions with backups. Week 9 also has a little extra meaning for New York’s first-year head coach, as he is taking on his former team for the first time since they fired him.

Gase’s Bill Belichick-esque approach to Wednesday’s press conference was wise. It’s his job to get his team to ready to play and his coaching staff on the same page. He’s not responsible for player personnel or any front office activity. That’s on Douglas and his staff.
