Adam Driver made a special appearance on Last Week Tonight to hilariously confront John Oliver over his “strange” obsession with the actor.
Hosting the late-night show’s season finale on Sunday (15 November), the comedian reflected on 2020, saying: “I spent the whole year demanding that Adam Driver demolish me. Crush my larynx, you unwieldy boulder.”
However, Oliver was then interrupted by a video call from the Star Wars actor himself, who was less than impressed by the host’s comments, which have been a common theme throughout the season.
“Listen to me, what the f*** are you doing?” Driver asked a sheepish-looking Oliver. “This bit? This bit, this thing you’ve been doing that’s either sexual or violent. This strange, strange bit that for some reason you’ve pulled me into.”
He continued: “Do you realise, over this past year, what you’ve asked me to do to you? ‘Collapse on your chest.’ ‘Tie your fingers in a square knot.’ ‘Step on your throat.’ ‘Shatter your knees.’ ‘Pull your heart out through your ear.’ What’s wrong with you?”
Adding that fans on the internet had now come to “stan” the two of them together, Driver said that he was sick of people approaching him to ask if he was “going to punch a hole in you like a Marriage Story wall”.
Trying to justify his actions, Oliver said that he was merely “having some weird fun,” with Driver trying to coax an apology out of him only for Oliver only to describe himself as “America’s naughtiest b****” and “six feet of nasty, spankable bird meat crammed into a suit”.
“You’re sorry, I’m trying to get you to say you’re sorry,” Driver replied. “You deeply weird, small, small thing.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Oliver closed off the season by telling 2020 it could “go f*** itself”.
