KHON KAEN: Pro-election student activist Rangsiman Rome has been detained in this northeastern province for violating the junta’s order on political assembly.
The Thammasat post-graduate law student is in the process of applying for bail.
Jutupat “Pai Dao Din” Jatupat Boonpattararaksa, another student activist convicted for lese majeste and several other political charges, was also brought from the Khon Kaen Special Correctional Institution to the 23th Military Circle court in the province on Friday to check defendant evidence in the same case.
The pair, along with six other activists, were charged after holding a talk on the constitution with Isan people at Khon Kaen University during their vote-no campaign ahead of the referendum on the junta-drafted charter in August 2016.
Mr Rangsiman said he just learned about the charges last month and had never received a summons.
Pavinee Chumsri, his lawyer from the Thai Lawyers for Human Rights centre, said her team was considering merging the case against Mr Rangsiman with that of others.
