THANE: The Thane municipal transport may penalise its contractors holding them responsible for disruption to bus services during the four day flash strike called by their contractual conductors last week leaving the undertaking to face approximate revenue loss of nearly Rs 20 lakhs, officials informed.
Around 331 contractual conductors deployed by Eagle Infrastructure Pvt Ltd and Apurva Mahila Sahakari Sanstha – for operating Thane transport undertaking buses went on strike Friday morning demanding better payment from their respective employers and ended protest late Monday after a meeting between municipal commissioner and political leaders.
The protest by the 206 male and 125 female conductors resulted in around 100 buses from the 310 TMT fleet stranded leading to cancellation of 600 trips daily on the crucial Ghodbunder road, Borivali, Mulund routes.
“The transport undertaking makes payment to the contractor and is not responsible for their salary structures. Our commuters suffered unnecessary inconvenience due to the protest which also affected our earnings to the tune of approximately Rs 18-20 lakh over the four days. We are now mulling to penalise the contractor and recover the cost from them, informed Bhalchandra Behere, transport manager.
