The ACT government has made a call on sportsgrounds in a move that will turn heads across Canberra's major winter codes.
All ACT government-operated turf sportsgrounds have been closed from Friday until Sunday, wiping out a number of fixtures across the city.
Grounds will be reassessed on Monday morning to determine whether they are fit for use to kick off the week.
All Canberra Raiders Cup and Katrina Fanning Shield games have been moved to a scheduled washout round on August 29.
Capital Football has opted to cancel the round of junior and senior community level fixtures, with National Premier League games to be moved to synthetic fields where possible. Fixtures that cannot be relocated will be be postponed.
Some games could still go ahead this weekend at privately-owned grounds, synthetic pitches, or venues across the border.
"Due to the recent wet weather, ACT government turf sportsgrounds are closed for training and match play today and this weekend, 3-5 July 2026," an ACT government spokesperson said.
"These grounds will be reassessed on Monday morning, Monday 6 July 2026 if they can re-open."
Sportsgrounds in Queanbeyan are closed on Friday, with the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council set to make a call on venue availability for the weekend by 2pm on Friday.
The synthetic field at Jerrabomberra's Regional Sports Complex is unaffected by the closures.
While grounds across Canberra have been shut for the majority of the week, synthetic fields at Melrose and Nicholls had been closed for training but open for matches, while the running track at Woden Athletics Park is unaffected by the closure.
