Accused bomb hoaxer walks free after insisting Heathrow security officers 'made it up'

A man accused of a bomb hoax has walked free after insisting two security officers at Heathrow "made it all up".

Saeed Hashi, 32, was found not guilty by a jury of communicating false information with intent relating to an explosive device in relation to an incident on 23 October last year.

Hashi, from Hackney, had chatted with guards Mitchell Kelly and his colleague Leanne Sluman at 5.40am, where he chatted about "being British-Somali and a Muslim" before allegedly telling the pair: "I have a bomb in my bag....bomb, bomb, bomb."

Mr Kelly said he looked inside and noticed a layer of clothing with some cans of beer.

Hashi was later arrested but in his police interview, Hashi denied saying he had a bomb in his bag.

He admitted he had been drinking and chatted to the two guards about 'being British-Somali and a Muslim' before the conversation took a turn, the court heard.

After he was cautioned he was asked whether he had told security he had a bomb in the bag.

Hashi replied "no" and said he was at the airport to say goodbye to friends who were flying to the US.

He added: "I'm not stupid, 100% it's a lie. They watch too many films and they've made it all up."

He also accused the guards of "Islamophobia" for getting him arrested.

Giving evidence Hashi told jurors at the newly opened 'Nightingale court' sitting in Monument in the City of London: "They've made it all up."

Asked why he was drinking at 5am and had so much beer with him, Hashi said: "That day was a very hot day so I was planning to go to Brighton."
