AC Milan vs Inter: Fikayo Tomori challenges team-mates to join Rossoneri legends and ‘write our own history’

Fikayo Tomori has challenged his team-mates to “write our own history as the new Milan” ahead of tonight’s Champions League semi-final first leg between city rivals AC Milan and Inter.

Milan have reached their first semi-final since 2007, when they beat Liverpool in the final in Athens to avenge the ‘Miracle of Istanbul’ final two years earlier.

Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium will again host the final this year, on June 10, when the winners of this decider will face Manchester City or Real Madrid.

Both ties between Milan and Inter will take place at the San Siro, which the pair have shared since 1947. Inter are fourth in Serie A, while Milan, who won the league last term, sit two points below them in fifth.

“Everyone knows the players that have come before us”, Tomori said.

“Everyone knows the trophies this club has won, the Champions League being the pinnacle. It’s exciting knowing we have the chance to do something really special — to write our own history as this new Milan.

“This season we wanted to win the Scudetto again, but that hasn’t gone to plan. We find ourselves in the Champions League semi-final and in the race to qualify again next year. For a club like Milan, we want to be fighting for [titles] at the end of the season.”

Tomori has impressed in Europe this season and is eyeing an England recall for next month’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.
