'Absolutely heartbreaking' Tributes pour in for two-year-old baby who died in Edinburgh flat

Tributes have poured in across social media after the tragic death of a two-year-old baby in Edinburgh.

The child, named locally as Julius Czapla, was found by police after they were called to a block of flats in the Muirhouse area of the city around 9.30am on Saturday November 21.

The tot was discovered with serious injuries and later died at the scene.

A 40-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the incident and investigations into the tot’s death are ongoing.

Many shared tributes to the baby on social media, describing the young child as "far too good for this terrible world".

Floral tributes and cards were also left at the scene.

One Facebook user said: “Absolutely heartbreaking, and so close to home that myself and other parents going to school might have walked past you so many times.

“The thoughts we have of " if only we knew, we could've helped". Fly high little angel. Rest in peace.”

Another added: “So sad another wee angel taken before his time.”

One person wrote: “Such a tragic thing to happen, poor baby. Our thought are with everyone who is dealing with this terrible thing.

“R.I.P. little one you were far too good for this terrible world.”

Another added: “Horrific - and heartbreaking. Poor wee mite. Really feel for the emergency services who attended as well as the wee soul's family. Terribly sad.”

Chief Inspector David Happs, from Drylaw Police Station, said: "Around 9.30am on Saturday, 21 November, 2020, officers and emergency services were called to an address in the Muirhouse area of Edinburgh where a two-year-old child was found seriously injured.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

"A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident and enquiries are at an early stage and ongoing.

"We understand an incident such as this can cause distress and alarm to the local community. There will be a continued police presence in the area as we conduct enquiries."

"Anyone with information that may assist the investigation should report this to police on 101, quoting incident number 1010 of 21 November."
