Aberdeen and Dundee clashes OFF as Storm Malik wreaks havoc on Scottish football fixture list

Aberdeen’s home clash with St Johnstone and St Mirren's trip to Dundee have both fallen victim to Storm Malik.

The severe winds have battered the UK, wreaking havoc up and down Scotland.

Pittodrie was the first top flight fixture to fall with the north east badly affected.

And that was followed by the Dens Park clash between the Dark Blues and Jim Goodwin's Buddies.

Gusts of up to 80mph caused travel chaos with nearly 200 trains cancelled by Network Rail.

Those included Dundee-Aberdeen services which impacted St Johnstone fans who had planned to make the short trip north.

And North East police tweeted: "The Aberdeen v St Johnstone FC football fixture due to take place today has been cancelled. Motorists are advised to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary and please exercise caution."

The club added that the match, due to be refereed by Willie Collum, was postponed due to "safety concerns around the stadium".

Callum Davidson was looking to build on the point they picked up against Dundee after the Scottish Premiership bottom dogs stopped the rot following 10 defeats on the spin while the Dons were hoping to bounce back from their miserable midweek defeat to St Mirren.

The Buddies, though, couldn't were denied the chance to follow that up with another three points as their game against Dundee was also postponed.

Championship leaders Arbroath's home clash with Partick Thistle was earlier also called off due to the adverse weather and the SPFL are braced for more to follow.
