Aaron Wan-Bissaka transfer: Man Utd launch 'substantial bid' for Crystal Palace star

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans to bolster his defence have reportedly led the club to make a 'substantial bid' for right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils will be desperate to improve on last season's sixth place finish and it is believed that Wan-Bissaka is being eyed as a potential solution to strengthening their defence.

Roy Hodgson handed the 21-year-old his first team debut for Palace in February, who relished the opportunity by going on to become one of the most promising young talents in the Premier League.

Sky Sports have said United are keen to get the deal over the line and have launched a 'substantial' offer for Wan-Bissaka early in the transfer window.

Wan-Bissaka joined the Eagles aged 11 and was developed as a striker and winger. During the 2016/17 season, he was asked to step into a first team training session and mark Wilfried Zaha where his conversion to a defender began.

He played 39 matches across three domestic competitions for Palace last season, grabbing four assists from the right-back position. On the international stage, he has represented England at U-20 and U-21 levels.

United have already dipped into the market with the capture of Swansea City winger, Daniel James . The 21-year-old is Solskjaer's first summer signing and featured 38 times for the Swans last season with five goals and ten assists.

Elsewhere, experienced midfield maestro Juan Mata has been offered a new contract when his current deal expires at the end of this month.

The club appear to be starting their transfer dealings early, a trend which has proven effective for some of their Premier League rivals in recent years.
