Aaron Boone’s Fiery Tirade Results in Third Ejection in Yankees’ Last 10 Games

Yankees manager Aaron Boone has made a bit of a habit lately of getting on an umpiring crew’s bad side. That trend continued during Thursday night’s game against the Orioles, when Boone was ejected for the third time in his team’s last 10 games.

It was Boone’s fourth ejection of the season, this time for arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Edwin Moscoso. No manager has been ejected more times this year than Boone.

Boone has been wearing umpires out ever since he took over as New York’s manager in 2018. Since then, he’s been ejected 30 times, per ESPN Stats & Info—more than any other manager in baseball during that span.

The Yankees are actually playing good baseball of late, winning seven of their past nine games entering Thursday, so it’s not as if his team’s form has Boone in a particularly rotten mood. If the winning continues, perhaps we’ll continue to see Boone push the envelope with umpires going forward in order to keep the good mojo flowing—though it’s possible that Boone’s prickly relationship with the umps will persist independent of how his team is performing.
