AAF fantasy football: 14 players to start in Week 2

While the Indianapolis Colts and the rest of the NFL are preparing for the offseason to begin, the Alliance of American Football (AAF) will enter its second week.

Wherever there is football, there is fantasy football and with a chance to fill the offseason void, there are many managers participating in fantasy leagues involving the AAF.

Here are 14 AAF players to start in fantasy football Week 2:

Quarterback

Luis Perez, Birmingham: Though he failed to throw a touchdown pass in the league’s opening week, Perez showed he can be a valuable asset to a fantasy team. He had a middling 13.28 standard fantasy points in Week 1 but now gets to face a Stallions defense that just allowed 38 points, which included 275 passing yards and four passing touchdowns.

John Wolford, Arizona: Having one of the best weeks in the AAF, Wolford torched the Stallions in Week 1 to the tune of 275 passing yards, four touchdowns and two two-point conversions. He also had eight carries, which is extremely encouraging for his floor if he continues to be a dual-threat quarterback.

Running Back

Trent Richardson, Birmingham: It wasn’t an aesthetically appealing performance in Week 1 as Richardson stumbled his way to 2.5 yards per carry on 23 rushes. He did, however, record two rushing touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions. On volume alone, Richardson is a solid play against what appears to be a leaky Stallions defense.

Jhurell Pressley, Arizona: Another running back that seems to have the majority share of the backfield, Pressley took 18 carries for 64 yards in Week 1 while adding a 30-yard touchdown reception. He also added a two-point conversion. Projecting to be a high-volume back, Pressley is in a good spot to produce in Week 2.

Ja’Quan Gardner, San Diego: Though the Fleet failed to score a touchdown in the opening week, Gardner was efficient with his eight carries for 55 yards. He also caught two passes on three targets for 17 yards. In a matchup with the Legends, who just gave up 40 points, Gardner finds himself as a solid option in Week 2.

A’Keem Hunt, Orlando: Despite being in more of a committee, Hunt could be given the hot hand treatment after averaging 7.3 yards per carry while leading the backfield in touches in Week 1. He also saw three targets in the passing game, which led the backfield. He takes on a San Antonio defense that allowed 5.4 yards per carry in Week 1.

Wide Receivers

Mekale McKay, San Antonio: McKay’s fantasy managers should feel excited after he saw 12 targets in his team’s win Week 1. He caught five of those targets for 80 yards with a long of 22 yards. Though Orlando didn’t allow more than 43 receiving yards to any one receiver in Week 1, McKay could be shaping up to be a volume monster.

Quinton Patton, Birmingham: If you haven’t noticed by now, the Iron have a strong offense with some talented pieces. Patton is among them after he caught four of nine targets for 107 yards in Week 1. In a favorable matchup this week, Patton should be projected among the best plays at the position.

Seantavius Jones, Atlanta: Though the Apollos defense didn’t allow much, Jones wound up leading the Legends in targets with eight during the Week 1 blowout. Though he does have some shaky quarterback play, Jones could be in a solid spot for volume in Week 2.

Dontez Ford, San Diego: Despite only seeing three targets in Week 1, Ford made some big plays catching all three of those targets for 56 yards. He might not be the main target on his team, but he’s got decent size and showed in Week 1 he can make some big plays. He’s also got a favorable matchup at home against Atlanta.

Greg Ward Jr., San Antonio: The former Houston wide receiver had a solid outing in Week 1 catching five of seven targets for 65 yards. He did have a long of 37 yards, but he was heavily targeted behind McKay. In a matchup with Orland this week, Ward projects to be a solid play should the volume stay consistent.

Tight End

Anthony Denham, Salt Lake City: The leading receiver for his team in major categories, Denham caught five passes on seven targets for 59 yards. It is tough to find usage at tight end, but he seems to be a favorite target for his quarterbacks. His matchup isn’t great, but he could get by on volume alone.

Gerald Christian, Arizona: The Hotshots torched the Stallions in Week 1 and even though the receivers got the bulk of the production, Christian had a solid day catching three of four targets for 44 yards and a touchdown, which came in the red zone.

Gavin Escobar, San Diego: One of the more prominent names in the league, Escobar was productive for the position in Week 1 catching five of six targets for 66 yards. He should continue to be one of the top plays at the position throughout the season.
