A78 route closed northbound for essential roadworks

A section of the A78 has been closed northbound near Kilmarnock due to overnight roadworks, Traffic Scotland confirmed.

All lanes are closed northbound between the B746 at Loans, east of Troon, and the A77 at Monkton, near Glasgow Prestwick Airport.

Traffic Scotland said the road was closed to allow for overnight essential roadworks.

In a Twitter post in the early hours of Tuesday (August 17), the agency said: "Motorists are advised to use the signed diversion route which is in operation and allow extra time for their journey."

Traffic Scotland added the road is due to reopen by 6am on Tuesday.
