A37 crash: Motorcylist left with 'possible life-changing injuries' in Bristol

A motorcyclist has been left with possible life-changing injuries after a crash shut a key route in Bristol on Thursday afternoon (August 25). Emergency services remain at the scene on a stretch of the A37 Bristol Road near Whitchurch after a collision between a vehicle and a motorbike.

Police and ambulance sent crews to the road between the B3130, Pensford, and Staunton Lane, where the route has been closed to allow emergency services to attend to the scene. The driver of the motorcyclist has been taken to Southmead Hospital for treatment.

In a statement, a spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police said: “We were called at 1.30pm today (Thursday 25 August) following a collision between a vehicle and a motorbike on the A37 near Whitchurch. The driver of the motorcycle has been taken to hospital and has possible life-changing injuries. A road closure is in place while emergency services are at the scene."

As it happened: A37 closed both ways after motorcycle crash

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 13.23hrs to a road traffic collision in the Whitchurch area. We sent two land ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, a critical care car and an operations officer. We conveyed one patient to Southmead Hospital by land ambulance”.

The road was initially closed between Woolard Lane to Staunton Lane at 1.35pm on Thursday. Traffic reporting system Inrix confirmed the road closure has been extended back to Pensford at 4.25pm, with long delays in the area.

There has also been a crash in the Hengrove area of Bristol causing a partial road blockage on West Town Lane. There is congestion to Callington Road and Bath Road as traffic tries to avoid both this crash and the closure of the A37, according to Inrix.

Police have said if you were in the area and witnessed the incident, or have dashcam footage, please contact 101 and quote reference 5222205286.
