The 2019 NFL schedule was released just a few days ago, which means it’s time to speculate on potential results. With opening day rosters still a long way from being set, lets take a way-too-early look at what the Kansas City Chiefs season may look like.

Week 1 @ Jacksonville
Kansas City will open the 2019 season with a tip to Jacksonville to take on the Nick Foles-led Jaguars. The first half of this one will be close, as Jacksonville’s defense comes out strong and proves enough to keep the Chiefs from putting up 26 or more points for the first time in over a year. Mahomes and crew prevail, however, figuring out ways to exploit the Jags’ secondary along with an impressive performance from the new look Chiefs defense.
Chiefs win 23-14 (1-0)

Week 2 @ Oakland
The Chiefs head to Oakland in mid-September to take on the Raiders, who are still sporting Derek Carr at QB. Patrick Mahomes will have a field day against the Oakland defense, connecting with Travis Kelce twice. Gruden’s second season as the Raiders head coach gets off to a rocky start, and Kansas City wins easily.
Chiefs win 38-20 (2-0)

Week 3 vs. Baltimore
The Chiefs home opener comes in week 3 as they host the Baltimore Ravens. The combination of a defense weakened by losses in free agency, and Lamar Jackson’s inability to throw downfield make Kansas City’s homecoming a happy one.
Chiefs win 30-10 (3-0)

Week 4 @ Detroit
A bit of a head scratcher that the NFL didn’t take this matchup as an opportunity to have Patrick Mahomes and the league’s best offense play on Thanksgiving Day in front of the whole country. Instead, Kansas City visits Detroit to close out the first quarter of the season. Mahomes overmatches Matt Stafford, and Andy Reid puts on a coaching clinic againt Matt Patricica. Chiefs roll.
Chiefs win 35-21 (4-0)

Week 5 vs Indianapolis (Sunday Night Football)
Kansas City’s first prime time game of the season comes in a huge rematch of the divisional playoffs at Arrowhead against the Colts, and this game lives up to its billing. Justin Houston makes his return to Kansas City as a member of the Colts, and makes an impact, sacking Mahomes twice. The back and forth affair favors the home team, who pull off an overtime victory in a Sunday night thriller.
Chiefs win 38-35 (5-0)

Week 6 vs Houston
I think Deshaun Watson will turn things around after his sophomore slump, and he comes in to KC with a full head of steam to make this another nail-biter at Arrowhead. Houston’s defense gives Kansas City some problems, and the Chiefs once again take the game in overtime.
Chiefs win 23-17 (6-0)

Week 7 @ Denver (Thursday Night Football)
The Chiefs hit the road four days later to Mile High Stadium to take on the Broncos. I have a feeling this will be a closer game than it should be, simply because of the short rest and the dogfight they just had with the Texans. Kansas City will win this game for two reasons. One being that Denver has Tennessee the Sunday prior in a late afternoon game. The second being that I don’t believe that Joe Flacco can lead a team to victory against one led by Patrick Mahomes.
Chiefs win 24-20 (7-0)

Week 8 vs Green Bay (Sunday Night Football)
A huge Sunday Night matchup brings Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to Kansas City for an epic showdown of two great quarterbacks. Green Bay added more to their defense this offseason during free agency, and that shows on the field throughout the first half of the season. Rodgers and Mahomes take over in the second half and shoot it out down to the wire, but this one isn’t in the cards for the Chiefs.

Chiefs lose 31-28 (7-1)

Week 9 vs Minnesota
The Chiefs return to Arrowhead to take on the Vikings and right the ship. Kirk Cousins proves that he cannot keep up with the league’s elite, and their defense just doesn’t have the same bite that it used to, leading to Andy Reid’s offensive gameplan being executed to perfection, and the Chiefs defense being stingy when they have to.
Chiefs win 27-13 (8-1)

Week 10 @ Tennessee
The Titans host the Chiefs in the teams’ first matchup since the infamous 2017 Wild Card game. However, this time the result is different. Derrick Henry is stripped twice and the Kansas City defense shows signs of really gelling as the season wears on.
Chiefs win 24-10 (9-1)

Week 11 @ Los Angeles Chargers (Monday Night, Mexico City)
The Chiefs’ second attempt in two years to play a game in Mexico City goes off without a hitch this time. Fans are treated to a game almost as entertaining, and without the winner hailing from LA. Carlos Hyde pounds the rock in the fourth quarter and seals the deal.
Chiefs win 27-20 (10-1)

Week 12 Bye Week

Week 13 vs Oakland
By this point in the season the Raiders are a disaster yet again. Kansas City is caught looking ahead to their trip to New England a week late, but still manages to prevail with a double digit victory.
Chiefs win 34-17 (11-1)

Week 14 @ New England
The rematch of last year’s AFC Championship game turns out to be another classic. Mahomes vs. Brady III has another second half for the ages, but this time Mahomes gets his hands on the ball last, boosting the Chiefs record to 12-1. Most importantly solidifying their spot atop the AFC playoff picture.
Chiefs win 41-35 (12-1)
Continue…

Week 15 vs Denver
The Broncos head to Kansas City with their playoff hopes hanging on by a thread. Joe Flacco and Vic Fangio can’t come up with any answers for the Chiefs, and are frustratingly knocked out of contention.
Chiefs win 33-21 (13-1)
Continue…

Week 16 @ Chicago (Sunday Night Football)
The Chiefs head to Chicago just before Christmas in snowy weather, and forget to pack their A-game. The game turns into a mess of turnovers, combined with Matt Nagy playing the time of possession game. A sloppy game becomes the Chiefs second loss of the season.
Chiefs lose 20-16 (13-2)

Week 17 vs Los Angeles Chargers
This game proves to be meaningless for the Chiefs, who have already locked up the 1-seed in the AFC playoff field. Chad Henne gets the start, and can’t muster enough offense to hang with Los Angeles. The hot take machines claim Kansas City is entering postseason play in a tailspin, but Patrick Mahomes is prepared to right the ship as the road to Super Bowl IV runs through Kansas City for the second year in a row.
Chiefs lose 26-19 (13-3)
