A trip to help his brother in Oakland is not in the plans for Jay Gruden

Jay Gruden is currently without a day job, but he doesn’t seem to have any plans to change that in the near future. For now, he’s just enjoying his time off, spending time with his family, and waiting for boredom to spur him back into action.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Gruden looked back on his time in Washington and also gave a glimpse into his next coaching venture, wherever that may be. Rumors arose after he was fired that Gruden would travel to Oakland in order to join forces with his brother, Jon, coaching the Raiders for the rest of the season. That doesn’t seem to be the plan at the moment.

“I’ll enjoy myself until I go crazy with boredom,” Gruden said. “Then I’ll figure out some things to do. I’d really just like to do that, just take some time off, then I’ll make some notes and get my preparation ready.”

There’s no telling the level of coach that Gruden will be once he returns to football, be it an offensive coordinator or a head coach, but many people around the league think that he has real talent and knowledge and that his failures in Washington were more due to the circumstances around him more than anything else. In a years’ time, don’t be surprised to see Gruden with another headset on somewhere in the NFL landscape.
