A South Shields museum is looking for someone to donate their hair

A South Shields Museum is requesting a strange donation - your hair.

South Shields Museum & Art Gallery is looking for somebody who went three months without a haircut during the lockdown to send in their hair cuttings, once they've had their first trim.

The Museum says: "As hair salons begin to reopen from Saturday 4 July, the museum would like to find someone with 3+ months worth of hair growth, who has an appointment at the barbers or hair salon this week and is willing to share their hair clippings.

"The hair will be added into the museum collection as a record of the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on the local community. The museum has also been collecting other items including the rainbows painted and displayed to thank the NHS and key workers and items of PPE."

Barbers and salons closed when the UK went into lockdown towards the end of March. They were allowed to reopen from Saturday July 4.

If your hair is displayed in the museum, you'll be in fine company, as author Catherine Cookson's locks are kept there too.

If you're willing to share your hair, email adam.bell@twmuseums.org.uk before you go for your haircut.
